Cleaning up after the holidays is a must, especially if you’ve been entertaining in your home. Holiday decor finally comes down, gets cleaned and put away to await next year’s celebrations.
We have many great options for cleaning the home naturally. In the kitchen, consider sustainable bamboo handled dish brushes, natural fiber scrubbies, and sponges. Cellulose cloths are a great paper towel replacement, plus they are biodegradable! We also have bamboo dish drying racks in stock, as well as wooden plastic bag dryers, great for drying and reusing plastic baggies, shrink wrap, and more.
For general cleaning and stain/odor remover try Dr. Zymes Multi Purpose Cleaner! It’s great for chemically sensitive people, is nonscented, nontoxic and environmentally friendly. A great all purpose cleaning soap we frequently carry is Dr. Bronners Sal Suds Biodegradable soap. This soap can be diluted and used for a multitude of household cleaning, including laundry and mopping! We also carry an assortment of eco friendly laundry soap, dryer sheets, wool balls, and dish soaps.
For cleaning and polishing furniture, we carry a lightly scented Wood Care Polish that keeps your wood furniture clean and protected. We also carry Block Oil, that is perfect for wooden/bamboo utensils and cutting boards, butcher blocks, and any wooden or bamboo food prep surfaces.
Some good cleaning tasks to check off your list:
• Now is a good time to give your reusable shopping bags a wash. Try to make a habit out of wiping out or tossing in the wash once a month to keep them clean. (We carry washable cotton and hemp reusable produce bags in store as well, to help reduce the amount of single plastic use.)
• Gently wipe the dust from houseplant leaves and remove any dead plant material around the base of the plant.
• A new year is also a really great time to declutter or remove things that take up space that you aren’t using anymore. Gift, donate, or sell old items that could use new life. For an earth-friendly way to purge old clothes or get new ones, host a clothing swap! This is a super fun way to socialize and repurpose clothes, shoes, and accessories that you no longer wear. Anything left behind at the swap can be tossed into bags and donated!
